Biografía: Ewan McGregor

Nació el 31 de marzo de 1971 en Crieff, Perthshire, Escocia (Gran Bretaña)
Mide 1'79 mts

Ewan Gordon McGregor es hijo del profesor James McGregor y de la maestra Carol McGregor. Tiene un hermano mayor llamado Colin (nacido en 1969), que es piloto de la RAF.

Desde su infancia, Ewan fue un gran apasionado del mundo del teatro y el cine, abandonando sus estudios para incorporarse al Perth Repertory Theatre escocés.
Con posterioridad estudió interpretación en la Guildhall School of Music and Drama de Londres y en la Morrison's Academy de Crieff.


A comienzos de los años 90 dio inicio a su carrera de actor, apareciendo en telefilmes británicos y en series de televisión, como “Scarlet & Black”. Su primer papel cinematográfico le llegaría con “Being Human” (1993), una película dirigida por Bill Forsyth que protagonizó Robin Williams.

“Tumba abierta” (1994), un thriller de Danny Boyle, le proporcionó su primer personaje de importancia. Con Boyle alcanzaría la fama internacional al protagonizar la película “Trainspotting” (1996), basada en la novela escrita por Irvine Welsh.
Un año antes contrajo matrimonio con la diseñadora de producción francesa Eve Mavrakis.


En esta segunda mitad del decenio intervino en títulos como “The Pillow Book” (1996) de Peter Greenaway, “Emma” (1996) de Douglas McGrath, “La sombra de la noche” (1997) de Ole Bornedal, “Una historia diferente” (1997) de Danny Boyle, “Velvet Goldmine” (1998), película dirigida por Todd Haynes o “La Amenaza Fantasma” (1999), primer título de la nueva trilogía preparada por George Lucas, en el cual McGregor encarnaba a Obi-Wan Kenobi.
En el año 2001 compartió protagonismo con Nicole Kidman en el musical “Moulin Rouge” (2001), un título dirigido por Baz Luhrmann por el cual fue nominado como mejor actor de comedia/musical al Globo de Oro.


Otros títulos de su filmografía son "La isla" (2005), film de acción co-protagonizado por Scarlett Johansson, o "Miss Potter" (2006), biografía de Beatrix Potter interpretada por Renee Zellweger.

Con Woody Allen rodó "Cassandra's Dream" (2007), drama criminal co-protagonizado por Colin Farrell, su hermano en la película y co-propietario del velero que titula el film.

En "La Lista" (2008) era un auditor que ingresaba en un club sexual tras encontrarse con un abogado interpretado por Hugh Jackman.

Próximamente co-protagonizará junto a Daniel Craig "I, Lucifer", película que adapta una novela de Glen Duncan y, entre otros proyectos, formará pareja homosexual con Jim Carrey en "I Love You Philip Morris", historia de amor carcelario basada en un libro de Steve McVicker.
